Welcome to Summer: Introducing Elegant Salads

Happy first day of summer! There's something about this particular day on the calendar that always makes me want to lighten everything up: lighter mornings, lighter meals, lighter way of moving through the kitchen. So it felt right that today is the day I'm finally sharing the cookbook I've been building behind the scenes for months: Elegant Salads: 45 Restaurant-Worthy Recipes for Everyday Meals and Effortless Entertaining.

If you grabbed my sandwich cookbook last week, thank you, truly. This one is a different kind of project, but it comes from the same place: I believe everyday food can feel a little more special without becoming complicated.

Why Salads, Why Now

Summer has a way of putting salads back at the center of the table, but I didn't want to write "a salad book." I wanted to write the salad book, one that treats salads the way a good restaurant does: as something composed, not thrown together.

That's why Elegant Salads starts where every great salad actually starts, with the dressing. The first section of the book is fourteen foundational vinaigrettes and creamy dressings, from a Classic Lemon Vinaigrette to a Cherry Balsamic that I genuinely can't stop making. Once you have a few of these in your back pocket, salad-making stops being a recipe you follow and starts being something you just know how to do.

From there, the book builds upward through Cool & Fresh Salads for warm-weather lunches, Warm & Composed Salads for heartier, entrée-style meals, and finally Signature Gourmet Salads, the dishes built for hosting and showing off a little.

A Taste of What's Inside

A few of my favorites for kicking off summer right:

Butter Lettuce, Strawberries & Feta Salad — soft lettuce, sweet berries, creamy feta, and a honey lemon vinaigrette. This is the salad I make when I want something that looks like more effort than it actually is.

Burrata, Grilled Nectarine & Toasted Pistachio Salad — warm, caramelized fruit against cool, creamy burrata. This one feels like summer on a plate, and it's become my go-to for backyard dinners.

Citrus Shrimp & Avocado Salad — bright, fast, and just substantial enough to be the whole meal on a hot evening.

And tucked into the bonus section: my method for crispy goat cheese medallions, which I genuinely think might be the single most requested "secret ingredient" once people taste it on a salad for the first time.

A Few Things I Believe About Salads

After forty years of feeding people, I've landed on a few simple truths that shaped this whole book: fresh herbs make everything taste more intentional, a properly balanced dressing can transform plain greens into something memorable, texture is what separates a forgettable salad from a craveable one, and plating matters, because we eat with our eyes first.

None of these recipes require special equipment or hard-to-find ingredients. They just ask you to be a little intentional with what you already have, which is really the whole philosophy behind everything I cook.
