Flip a Coin: A "Heads or Tails" Dinner Adventure coming 6/1

Have you ever been stuck at the "What’s for dinner?" crossroads? Today, we’re letting fate—and a shiny quarter—decide. June 1st is National Flip a Coin Day, and I thought, why not bring that bit of whimsy to our table?

This isn't about complexity; it’s about the joy of the unexpected. We’ve prepared two distinct paths for our Dinner Choice—The Ultimate Monday Slider. Since it’s a weeknight, we’re keeping it simple, but we’re taking it up a notch with a little gourmet flair.

The Toss: How it Works

Grab a coin and gather everyone around the kitchen island.

  • Heads: You’re going for the "Garden State" Slider—fresh, bright, and herbaceous.

  • Tails: You’re going for the "Savory Orchard" Slider—rich, sweet, and deeply satisfying.

The "Master Slider" Base Recipe

Prep time: 10 mins | Cook time: 10 mins

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb Ground Beef (80/20 mix for juiciness) or Ground Turkey

  • 1 tbsp Beef Tallow (for that perfect steakhouse sear)

  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder

  • 1/2 tsp Onion Powder

  • Salt and Pepper to taste

  • Small Brioche Slider Buns

Instructions:

  1. Season: In a bowl, gently mix the meat with the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Don't overwork the meat—keep it light for a tender bite!

  2. Shape: Form into 8 small patties, slightly wider than your buns (they will shrink a bit as they cook).

  3. The Sear: Heat your cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat and add the beef tallow. Once shimmering, add the patties.

  4. Cook: Sear for 3–4 minutes per side until a beautiful golden crust forms.

The Toppings: Let the Coin Decide!

Heads: The "Garden State" Slider Top your hot patty with a creamy dollop of goat cheese and a thick slice of heirloom tomato. Finish with a drizzle of Balsamic Glaze and a small handful of fresh arugula tossed in a squeeze of lemon.

Tails: The "Savory Orchard" Slider Melt a slice of sharp white cheddar over the patty in the final minute of cooking. Top with a generous spoonful of Lingonberry Jam and caramelized onions. A little confession—I’m not a fan of pickles myself, so you won't find them on my plate! But if you're a pickle lover, feel free to add a thick-cut bread and butter pickle for that extra tang.
